Update Q3 – Systems Change & Individual Advocacy

Written by: Jessica Warrick, Systems Change Advocate

Tri-County Independent Living has participated in several outreach opportunities. Through the Systems Change Advocacy outreach in partnership with the Assistive Technology department here at Tri-County Independent Living we were able to network and connect with several different providers at several events. Our participation in the Yurok Elders Summit allowed us to connect with tribal members who were unaware of our programs or simply did not think they qualified for services. This provided us with the opportunity to provide key services and advocacy in a way that impacts their lives in a positive way.

Last month we participated in the Hope Center BBQ which supported Mental Health in youth and adults. With this event we were able to connect with several individuals who were looking for support and resources to help stay independent in their homes and communities as well as youth who were concerned about the transition into adulthood. With the connections we made within the resource community we were able to provide information and resources to those who stopped by our table. Next, we attended an event that allowed us to provide information and referral services to the Queering youth of Humboldt county, making way for a more supportive and connected community of resources.

Lastly, our participation with the Oncology Fair through Providence gave many families access to resources that they were not previously aware of, creating a more supportive and sustainable resource community.
