Assistive Technology Manager Juliannah Harris attended the 40th annual CSUN Assistive Technology Conference

Juliannah Harris, our Assistive Technology Manager, recently attended the 40th annual CSUN Assistive Technology Conference. The conference emphasized the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for individuals with disabilities.

Notable developments included an AI system for the JAWS screen reader that offers task-specific guidance, and Microsoft’s “copilot” for Windows and Office, which can assist with summarizing, organizing, and writing emails, as well as prioritizing tasks for those with attention disabilities.

The conference featured a large exhibit hall with numerous AT vendors showcasing the latest innovations, particularly smart glasses. One pair offered live American Sign Language translation, while another provided text reading, object description and identification for low vision users.

The CSUN AT conference was a valuable experience for learning and networking. The knowledge gained will enable Juliannah to stay informed about current technologies and share this information with clients to enhance their independence and quality of life.
