TCIL supports youths with disabilities to learn about themselves, their strengths, and abilities and helps them design their own futures. Young people are eligible for TCIL youth services if they:
- Are between the ages of 0-24
- Self-identify as having a disability
The services offered by the TCIL Youth Services Program will look different for each client and their families depending on individual needs, but some examples of services offered include:
- Self Determination: TCIL staff provides facilitated goal setting in order for youths to make choices, assert values, and set goals.
- Interpersonal Life Skills: TCIL staff provides 1:1 or group mentoring on topics related to successfully navigating relationships with friends, co-workers, family, partners, and community members.
- Independent Living Skills: TCIL staff provides 1:1 mentoring on topics related to living an independent life, such as: resume writing, time management skills, budgeting, and applying for housing, school, or employment.
- Information Referral: TCIL staff will refer clients to other agencies in the community (with the client’s permission) if there is a service that the organization is unable to provide.
TCIL staff also provides curriculum and workshop based youth programs related to disability issues such as self-advocacy and self empowerment, the disability civil rights movement and its history, independent living philosophy, etc.
